BlueBolt is an award-winning visual effects company. It specialises in compositing, computer graphics and digital matte painting for film and television productions. Over the past ten years BlueBolt has worked on many projects including Game of Thrones, The Little Drummer Girl, Skyfall, The Night Manager, Peaky Blinders and Mission Impossible – Fallout. BlueBolt has won both BAFTA and VES awards.

BlueBolt is looking for an experienced Software Engineer to help maintain and develop the company’s VFX pipeline. You will work in a small engineering team, supporting artists and developing tools.

The role will be based at BlueBolt’s offices in central London. You will report to the Head of Pipeline.


  • Manage the whole software lifecycle of BlueBolt’s pipelines and tools.
  • Assist in the design, implementation and scheduling of software tasks.
  • Work closely with department heads and the production team.
  • Understand and adhere to the department’s coding standards.
  • Help plan projects by providing time estimates for tasks.
  • You will be expected to document your work clearly and concisely.
  • Provide code reviews.
  • Provide day-to-day pipeline support for artists.
  • Help mentor more junior members of the team.

Experience and Skills - Required

  • Experience developing effective, reusable and efficient code using python.
  • Successful experience working with colleagues in a development team.
  • Resourcefulness and problem-solving aptitude.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with non-technical people.
  • Well organised and with good time management.

Experience and Skills - Nice to have

  • Development of pipelines for Foundry tools (Nuke, Mari and Hiero).
  • Using render management software (Deadline, Tractor, Grid Engine).
  • Development experience using Linux/Unix.
  • Understanding of colour workflow in VFX.
  • TD / Render Engineer experience with renderers such as Arnold.
  • Coding in C++.
  • Experience using 2D/3D applications in a production environment.
  • Experience working in a SCRUM based development environment.
  • Experience of Nuke/Maya API development and Shotgun Toolkit.
  • Experience using Jira and Confluence.
  • Experience with source code control systems (git or subversion).
  • Degree in Computer Science or a related discipline.
